Effective Self-Motivation

Aspiring for success in life requires self motivation. You should be able to lift your own spirits whenever a discouraging situation arises. That's the only way to overcome difficulties. The following are some helpful tips on effective self motivation.

You should have a cause. This is the root of any good motivation. This should encourage you to give the best that you can even in times of trouble. A cause that is valuable to you can provide a never ending inspiration. Whenever you feel that your motivation is running low, you can always go back to your cause to get a refill.
You should have a dream. Your cause may be a rich supply of motivation but it is still vague. The cause should be made concrete by forming a dream from it.

Acquiring a dream is essential because it is easier to be motivated if you have something tangible to aim for. It shouldn't just be any other dream. Your dream should inspire you so it should be big. It should be challenging but within the bounds of reality. It should exhaust your ability beyond your comfort zone.

It is not enough to desire something. You should develop the hunger. You see, a desire won't get you through times of hardship. Hunger makes you want something so bad that you will do anything to satisfy it. If you have a cause you are passionate about and a dream that you can picture, the hunger is the force that drives you.
Do not compare yourself with others and just mind your own business. Focus yourself on your own performance. There is no point comparing yourself with another. The only one you have to compete with is your self.

Never say surrender. When obstacles are encountered along the way, do not quit. Never think that it is impossible to continue. This is the difference between winners and losers. Hence, they say, a winner never quits.

Never look back. In counseling, this is always a no-no. Dwelling on the past will only drag you down. Take that load off your back and leave it behind. There is no need to carry that burden. You might have made mistakes in the past but their memory should only serve as a lesson that you can learn from. It's all water under the bridge. No use crying over spilled milk, as they say. The past can never be brought back again unless you have a time machine.
